Brady Savage-George, the Managing Director of a Bristol based facilities management business, Almeda, talks about his inspiring charity cycling challenge that has raised thousands of pounds for charity.
I recently took part in a 500-mile cycle following the famous North Coast 500 route at the northern tip of Scotland.
Over the four days it took me to complete the task, I cycled 410 miles and climbed a total of 27,000 feet. In doing so, I raised £8,000 for The Bike Network – an organisation that provides free bicycles and cycling equipment to people affected by cancer across the UK.
I enjoy taking part in endurance challenges, and spent several months preparing for the North Coast 500, while also training for an Ironman distance triathlon in Copenhagen in August.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with high-performance experts such as Adam Walker, a record-breaking open water marathon swimmer as part of my training for this challenge.
However, this was about more than just physical endurance, it was a ride to empower individuals during the most challenging fight of their lives.
Cancer unfortunately impacts one in two people across their lifetime, and I am proud to be doing whatever I can, even in a small way, to help.
My emotions on completing the task were a mix of elation and exhaustion. It helped to have a great team of people completing the ride with me. The elements threw everything at us – wind, rain, sun, you name it, and there was a bad storm on the final day.
